You Could be a Team Captain

A strong leader is essential in creating a strong and successful team dynamic. A person’s ability to inspire and set a positive example for others on the team are two signs of a great leader! Leaders motivate and push others to perform to the best of their abilities while bringing the group to work together as a whole.

Here at Varsity, as our teams become more skilled and move towards competing at the national and international level, we hope that creating a Team Captain position will push our athletes to exhibit these important leadership and teamwork skills.  That’s why, starting in March for our spring session, Varsity’s Competition Prep Teams will have their first Team Captains!

The teams that will now have Captains are:

Mini Competition Prep Dance Team - Baboons

Junior Competition Prep Dance Team - Elephants

Sr. Competition Prep Jazz/Pom Team - Leopards

Sr. Competition Prep Hip Hop Team - Pythons

Are you on one of these teams and interested in becoming a Team Captain? Here’s how to do it!

Write a short explanation (approx. 2 paragraphs) on why you want to be in this position! Include why you think you are a good fit for the job, and what qualities you have that will make you a great leader! You will need to submit these to Coach Tami by your practice time on the weekend of March 4.

The Captains will then be chosen by Varsity’s coaching staff according to several criteria that they find will be important in a leader for our teams. Some of these qualities include timeliness, a positive attitude, dedication, good attendance at both practices and performances, as well as a reputation for treating others on the team with respect. They should set a good example by completing their homework each week, helping their teammates remember choreography, and always trying their best in class.

Remember! You need to show you are interested by submitting your proposal of why to Coach Tami. Those who do not show interest will not be considered!

Here are the due dates for each team:

Mini Competition Prep Dance Team - Baboons (March 5)

Junior Competition Prep Dance Team - Elephants (March 4)

Sr. Competition Prep Jazz/Pom Team - Leopards (March 5)

Sr. Competition Prep Hip Hop Team - Pythons (March 4)

We are so happy to give this opportunity to our teams and are excited to watch our teams continue to grow throughout this season and the next!
