Hydration

Hydration is extremely important to your health. Your body is composed of 60% water. Many parts of your body, such as organs, tissues, andevery system need water to function and survive. Your body uses water to maintain body temperature, remove waste, regulate blood pressure and heart rate and even to lubricate your joints. Everytime you go to the bathroom, sweat, or even breathe your body is losing water,so it is crucial that you replenish it. In some circumstances, like a hot day or a hard workout, the body will lose more water.

The daily recommendation for water intake is about 8 8-ounce glasses of water a day. You may need to drink more if you are active. The bestway is to listen to your body and look for signs of dehydration. Some common signs of dehydration are dark urine, dry mouth, headache, and dizziness. An easy way to tell that you are staying hydrated is if you urinate every two to four hours and it is light yellow or colorless. For athletes, it is important that you do not wait till you feel thirsty to drink water because that means you are already dehydrated. You want to drink plenty of water before you begin to exercise, continue to drink while exercising and replenish after.

Here are some tips to help you stay hydrated:

-Keep a water bottle with you at all times

-Drinka glass of water before every meal

-Put fruit in your water to add flavor

-Drink water when you go to a restaurant

-If you are hungry drink a glass of water first
